'The Time of Your Life' (poem) written by Andrew Drury

This poem was written on 9 November 1985

Born when the large hand is upright,

Walking when it is two minutes past

And so begins the youthful life of mischief,

Which, after adolescence, no longer lasts.

Married by the time the hand reaches the half-hour.

Having retirement to look forward to

After making life a great success –

But the clock stops with a minute to go.
