'The Ministering Angel' (poem) written by Andrew Drury

This poem was included in the anthology ‘Reflections in Time’ (Dogma Publications, Wellingborough, 2004)

Are you a ministering angel

Sent from the highest throne?

The celestial messenger to me

Is manifest in flesh and bone.

Gentleness from you flows

As, within your arms, I am enclosed.

There are no external wings

Or robes of dazzling white

That herald the glad news you bring

Of succour and delight.

You have come in human form

And, to my frail flesh, have conformed.

You are my saviour

In this overwhelming sea of stress –

You provide a safe harbour.

My sanctuary is in your embrace.

The storm your open arms will quail

For nought will penetrate your divine walls.

Your heavenly aura is exuded

And charity you enact

As you reveal your sanctified nature

When we were enjoined in that sacred pact –

The eternal nature of our union

Transcends all boundaries of time.
