This poem about a historic house in Surrey, UK,
(a National Trust property) was written in March 2011
Princes and Potentates
Did dine and play pool
At Mrs Greville’s behest
Within the ochre walls.
High society shone bright
Although the guests became fewer
To see the beloved portrait
Of the white-bearded brewer.
But ambers and rubies
Are still worn each Fall
By the trees across the cell
Beyond the wealth of all.
