'Do not ask me' (poem) written by Andrew Drury

Please, do not ask me that question

For it is quite unfair,

You wanted me to live only for you;

But my life cannot be shared.

My emotions are all mixed up –

A storm within a teacup.

Please, do not ask me that question,

For you said that you wanted the total;

But I cannot give you

Even half of my soul.

I do not want to disobey,

But only leave it to another day.

Please, do not ask me that question

For I am only human

And want joy and pleasure

Like any other man,

My pardon I hope that you give

For I have got my life to…
