'Today' (poem) written by Andrew Drury

Today, I

saw the white flash of an egret along the surface of a shimmering stream;

had a conversation with a friend that mainly consisted of memories of you;

woke up slowly with thoughts of you in a comfortable and reassuring dream;

observed the early spring flowers shyly showing their hues;

realising (after a friend remarked) how physically alike we were in our photos;

marvelled as the verdant grass and vivid leaves;

swept the path and removed the glistening late-laid snow;

visited places where pavements and pathways we trod;

spoke of my thoughts and feelings with honesty with God.

I wanted to tell you when you came home,

but you did not come.

When I arrive Home to tell you,

you will say: "I know."
