During the lockdown during Covid, Deborah produced several talks for the children, Unfortunately, I have been unable to find the videos for the 26 April and 2 August 2020, but I have discovered her script for the one recorded for 26 April 2020. It is written as she would have spoken it. I hope that you enjoy it.
Good morning boys and girls, young and old.
What strange times we are living in. I wonder what
you have been missing the most over the past few weeks.
Missing meeting precious family? Going out and
playing football? School?
I know I have really missed the children that I
teach and I do pray that they are keeping safe. I am sure that your teachers at
school or nursery are missing you lots.
I have also missed doing some the lessons in
school and I thought I would take advantage this morning of doing some maths,
one of my favourite subjects.
Grown ups, you will be able to take part too. We aren’t going to add up ages as there may be
numbers which are a bit too big for our little ones to add together.
I am going to start with those little ones who are
usually in crèche and who I know can count.
I have found these rabbits around the house. I
didn’t know we had so many. Can you help
me to count them?
Now I am going to put them behind me. Do you know from a distance they look a bit like
hares.
I know let’s see how many hares you can see from
where you are now. Go and have look out of the window but don’t leave the room.
Any joy? Sorry, you don’t have any hairs
to count?
Ummm. O)k. This is going to be a short talk…
We will have to improvise. I know, you have hairs on your head so we will
count those.
So boys and girls you need to find an adult with
you and I am going to give you 30 secs to count as many individual hairs on
their heads as possible.
I can see you very clearly and I want to see you
all counting. For the big children with no little children, you can count the
hairs on your own head.
Right, 30 secs are you ready?
And….. STOP.
OK. Put you hand up if you counted more than 20?
40? 50? 100? Well done.
Did anyone count all the hairs on their adult’s
head?
Now for the
Science bit… Concentrate.
Do you know what these numbers represent? 50-200
It is the
average nos of hairs lost in a day.
100,000 - 150,
000 .
What are these
numbers? Any idea?
They are the
average number of hairs an adult has on their head.
Natural Blondes
have an average of 150,000 hairs,
The average
red head has 90,000.
Those with
black or brown hair has about 110,000 hairs on their head.
Phew those are big number aren’t they…. I wonder how long it would
take to count them all?
As Christians we spend time praying to God and I was thinking about what
it might be like if He only knew people by their own number. Can you imagine
how long that unique number would have to be?
Dear God, this is number 2759330104540685
By the time I had called out the number I may have lost interest in the
prayer and I won’t feel special to God.
BUT
The Bible tells us clearly that God knows everything about us. We
are so much more than a number to him.
Matthew Chapter 10 Verse 30
God even knows how many hairs are
on your head.
Do you remember at the start you counted the hairs on your adults’ head?
Well we have just read that God knows us so well that he already knows how many
hairs we have on our head. Every part of you is special to God. We are
so special and unique to him.
Not only does he know the number of hairs on our head, but the Bible
tells us that God has written our names on the palm of his hand. He never
forgets us.
We are that special and unique to
him. Don’t forget, you are much more than just a number
to God.
I hope that this week, if you feel sad because you miss seeing people or
you miss the things you did before this lockdown, that you will remember how
special you are to God. He wants us to talk with him and share how we are
feeling.
Don’t forget you are special and unique to GOD. As you brush you hair
each day, remember God knows exactly how many hairs you have on your head and
that He loves you very much.
