I have imagined the reactions and thought processes of those people involved in the Good Friday and Easter narrative.
I hope that it will assist you to meditate on these events with fresh thoughts.
We were
honoured to be present throughout the time of the Lord on earth. However, it
did not mean that we could not understand why He came to such a desolate
planet, whose inhabitants continuously rebelled against Him.
When He was
born in such humble circumstances, we proclaimed in celebration to those who
would listen: ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom
His favour rests.’
We observed His
childhood over the thirty years when He grew in stature and favour with God and
man. As His ministry started, He chose to be in the desert to pray and fast for
forty days. After that, the fallen angel Satan tried to tempt away from
fulfilling His plan on three occasions, but Satan was unsuccessful. After he
had gone away, we came down to minister to our Lord.
For the rest of
the three years, we just observed from heaven as the Lord went about His work
in preaching the good news and in healing people.
When the
religious leaders decided that they wanted Him out of the way, they plotted to
arrest Him in the Garden of Gethsemane.
When Judas planted that kiss upon the Lord’s cheek and the armed men
grabbed Him like a common criminal, we were all prepared to intervene. After
all, there are far more of us than in all the armies of the word. The Father
gave the stern word that under no circumstances were we to intervene.
The following
events were too horrible to comprehend as the soldiers manhandled and
mistreated the Son of God who had created them.
When they placed Him on the cross in order that He was to die, we felt
that there was something that we should do – we felt so helpless as we remained
in the heavens, whilst our Lord was enduring the slow, painful death.
The Father
spoke with a voice as loud as thunder, stating that the Son was to die as the
Godhead had planned. It was something beyond our imagination.
There was near
silence in heaven when our Lord died, brought down from the cross and then laid
in the tomb.
On the third
day, we rejoiced as our Lord was raised from the dead. His appearance was as
bright as the sun at midday.
It was at that
moment that the Father commanded us to go for now our time had come to enter
the earth. We came down to announce that the Son of God was no longer in the
tomb, we startled the guard who were stationed there so that they were struck
down like dead men.
When the women
in their mourning approached the tomb, we were there to bring them the good
news that He was no longer there as He had risen for the living was not to be
found among the dead. There was great rejoicing among them for they knew that
death could not hold Him.
When we see the
Son of God in heaven now, He is the only One who bears the scars of His
redemption plan – the plan that He completed in full.
